Kentucky bluegrass is now shedding pollen. If you just started having allergy symptoms, this is probably why...
As of this last round of rain, Kentucky bluegrass is now shedding pollen. If you just started having allergy symptoms, such as runny nose, sneezing, wheezing, etc, this may be why. The pollen grains are tiny spheres of inflammation-triggering substances, encasing the DNA of the plant. When these get inhaled, they can cause inflammation in the sinuses and respiratory tract.

Levels of this allergen in the air are going to continue to build over the next several days, until another good rain comes to wash them away.

In some individuals, this allergy is nonexistent or mild enough not to bother with treatment. In many people, it is annoying. in a relatively small, but significant part of the population, it causes serious breathing difficulty.

Treatment for most individuals consists of giving a small amount of the pollen in combination with Impatiens extract, a strong natural antihistamine. This helps to re-educate the body's inflammatory response, and can sometimes permanently keep the body from having this type of reaction in the future.

For some people it will also be necessary to manage the inflammatory symptoms temporarily.
